anyone know about odometer tampering

I am suspect of the mileage on the R320 we purchased. It is a CPO car from a Mercedes dealer. It showed 16,018 when we looked at it. It has new tires, new front pad, will need back pads soon. Air fillter were virtually stopped up (see photo). Only service records i can find are 2 oil changes hand written in the service book and that was done by the dealer i bought it from. car was originally sold in S. C. CarFax rated it as ok and shows some emission tests. last noted mileage was 6045 in 8/09, bought by my dealer 7/10 with 16018. have sent emails to selling dealer and the second dealer asking for records.. no respose. anything else i can do?

The worn brake pads and new tires replaced might cause by the previous owner who has driven in stop and go situations. For the filthy air filter, it could cause by dust where the previous owner lived.

Currently, my 08 R350 has only 13,000 miles on odometer and the treads on my tires still look new.

It is not unusual at all for the stock tires (OEM Continentals) to need replacement after 16K miles. I bought my R500 with 26K miles and it too had brand new tires but they were identical to the stock Contis. I now have 40K miles and the tires are going bold... with only 14K miles on them... Good reason for it, the car weighs over 6 thousand pounds and I drive ,mostly in the city... I think I will try Michelin Lattitudes when I change them this month since I ve heard positive comments all around.

I think your car's mileage is legitimate, as the records show 10K miles in one year.

You are right about Michelin Latitudes tires.
My 08 R350 is equipped with OEM Michelin Latitudes tires when I bought it new in May 2008 and after 13K miles and still look good on tread.

My OEM Contis were also done by around 20K miles. For the dealer to certify the car I believe the tires must have a minimum tread depth left, which is why the dealer may have had to replace them. Same goes for the brakes.

My 08 R320 has 77,000 miles and the new Continentals needed replacement after 1 year, which was 37,000 miles. I now need new tires again after going with Michelin. (Thinking about going with Bridgestone this time.)

That car seems normal to me with mileage and tires. The dust is understandable if the car lived in that kind of region and the brakes if that kind of personality drove it.

I'd be worried about the oil changes not being with Mobil 1.

My front end was all chipped up after a year - that could be another "tell-tale" sign of more miles.

I guess I'd like to think these odometers are tamper resistant.

After all of the input from you nice people, i now believe that the mileage is probably ok. We have changed the oil to mobil 1. i had a bad tire on the back so when it was replaced i got the chance to look at the left pad. it is not quite half gone. the lower part of the front end had appartently been driven over a parking block. so some of the plastic has been replaced and repainted.
i was at the MB dealers this AM and looked at a 2011 moddel. they are stillputting continentals on them. Most first trip (600 miles) it averaged 29.474 MPG.. i think i will keep it.
