How to enable alarm chirp

Both of my benz have never chirped when enabling alarm. How the heck does one enable the alarm chirp, when arming it?

2008 R350 & 2008 C300

To my knowledge, none of the American made Benz's (R,ML,GL)have had alarms that chirp. The more recent German built cars (07+) seem to have different alarm systems and chirp when armed.

The dealer said the same thing to me when I asked.

"Chilledbenz" is correct that there are different alarm systems.

The door locks make a really loud CLUNK, which could be louder than a chirp.

Yes, I can hear all doors lock loud from outside besides all visual turn signal lights.

Back in the day, the W203's (C-Class) could programmed via the Star Diag. to country code "Netherlands" which would enable "chirp". I don't know if any such programming exists today.
