Second Row Arm Rest Removal

I ordered my 2011 R-Class last night and expect delivery in late April.

I went without the permanent 7th seat option but I still find it very difficult for an adult to pass through the second row in order to get to the third row because of the big arm rests.

Does anyone know if these arm rests are easy to remove? I believe the configuration is the same for all R-classes so was just curious if anyone has had the same thoughts.

Thanks!

Do a search in this and the other forum for the procedure someone has posted to remove the arms. You will however be left with two holes on the sides of the seat backs if you remove them.
Also the middle row passengers will find it uncomfortable seating with nowhere to rest. Their one arm. IMO the space is for kids occasionally accessing the back. Not for an adult. An adult needs to slide the seat forward and access the back the right way.

Thanks for your replay, aggst1. Based on your comments, would you recommend that I get the permanent 7th seat option or still leave it open for kids to pass through? I appreciate your thoughts.

Well it depends on your needs. If you need to carry 7 then by all means order it. I don't have such a need and I am happy with the way it is. My kids occasionally go through to access the third row. Also I have used the space to put luggage when going on vacation last year. Of course whatever you decide it is best to order it now. After the fact , everything is prohibitively expensive (like 3 times the cost)

my 2 cents

Order it with the cupholder/arm rest. You know, the one with the storage box. Then you could more easily remove it, if you don't feel you need it, and not have the holes that the built in armrests leaves when you remove them.
