Main battery life
50 months from in service date at 44K miles, the main battery failed load test at Service B.
$348 to put in a new battery ouch :-) I figured it was worth it to replace it now than have us stranded somewhere.
I have to say, I am somewhat disappointed at the battery life. I was expecting the battery to go at least 6 years.

I see you're driving a diesel. I suspect the electrical loads on that battery are greater than on a non-diesel.
Our 07 R500 still has the original batteries since service date of 7/07 with around 74,000 miles. My beloved left something on one night (an open door?) and the car wouldn't start the next morning. MB sent a service van. The technician jumped the car and had us drive it for a while. We drove it around the DC beltway, with nothing electrical on except the headlights and taillights. Apparently, that was sufficient to recharge the battery. This was during the winter, say, in January. We haven't had any trouble with it so far.

I agree that would contribute to the short life. Ours is used on a daily round-trip commute of 34 miles at an average speed of 45-50 mph. Until we bought the Volvo last July, we took the R on roadtrips to FL (from northern VA) at least twice a year averaging around 8-10 hours per day on the road at what I call "easy 80". Over the last two years, we've made frequent trips to ATL. I'm at the age where I don't do one-day long distance trips any more. We usually split anything over 600 miles into a two-day trip. We take the R when we plan to bring back a lot of stuff; otherwise, the Volvo gets slightly better mileage.
