I have the same exact problem. Searched the net for clues and at least two others experienced the same. It appears that a contact in the steering wheel is the problem and steering wheel replacement is the remedy... I am will be talking to the MB repair man to see what he has to say about it.

My MB man told me that the wheel needs to changed. Or at least they do it should the problem happen...

Horn problem

Does this mean that it went away by itself or is it still happening? Did your mechanic say what part of the steering wheel exactly needs to be replaced?

I took the steering wheel apart and tried to see what parts would be causing the short circuit, but could not figure it out. The wheel itself is not the problem in my opinion, rather some of the parts attached to the wheel or the steering column. I'm not sure.

Any additional information would help me.

Thanks again,

Michael

The problem is still on. I have not horn... Apparently there must be some contacts on the wheel. I thought of the same thing that it must be simply some contact that must be replaceable; however no one seems to know what it is. MB opts to change the wheel either under the warranty or they let cutovers pay. When you look at the wheel (parts sheet), there are several contacts attached to the wheel. Maybe one of them is the problem. Someone who knows more than both of us may help out here…
