Need help with tire selection for wheels

I got a set of replica amg wheels for my R 350. The wheels are 22x9. What is the best size tire for this wheel? I've heard 285 35 22 (suggested by tirerack), rush guy from the forum suggested 265 40 22 to preserve the ride quality. I want a tire that's gonna protect my wheels as well. I live around alot of rough streets with pot holes. Please help!!

Don't use the wheels where you live. Carry the wheels with you when you go someplace where the streets are in excellent repair then swap them with your stock wheels. Stylin' and potholes just don't mix!

Larger rims w/ low profile tire wall and potholes don't mix (not styling).

Agree. Mine has a set of 22's (not rep) and three of the wheels have been bend by the potholes and railroad track. Once they are bend, the wheels will never back in shape even I have them repaired every year. Am now looking to down grade mine to 20's, so the ride and noise level will be back to normal.

Btw, mine is running 265/35/22.
