Droppy rear lift gate

Droppy rear lift gate
The rear lift gate opens and closes fine, but it doesn't hold the gate up at the highest position. It just sags at head level, a little more or less if its uphill/downhill. I thought the power lift had some support struts helping it out in there that probably went bad but a few hours today with the car, I learned they're simply mechanical springs and were more than strong enough! Anyways, does someone understand the power lift system enough to give me some hints what to do? Can it be low on fluid? Adjustable? etc?
thanks

In case you aren't aware, the system is adjustable. You adjust from the main menu on the front screen between the gauges. If it is programmed to open all the way and it still doesn't then the struts or mechanism probably need replaced. I can't help with that as I never had an issue. I keep mine to open about 80% or so so that the gate does not accidentally hit my garage door.
