Need some help with rear SAM update to activate trailer functionality
I have a '12 R350 with an aftermarket hitch installed and I added the factory trailer wiring and plug, along with the appropriate relays, but am unable to get the rear SAM re-programmed/re-flashed to turn on the trailer function.
The dealer was able to turn on the trailer sensing feature in the central gateway, but they said they had no options to program the rear SAM at all.
I would like to keep the factory wiring instead of resorting to an aftermarket module and would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any ideas or insight into getting the trailer functionality enabled.
I'm in the metro Detroit area if you have a tech or shop you can recommend.

I have a 2012 with the latest SAM. The mechanic was going on about the SAMs being SCN hardcoded at the factory and he needed some sort of password to access it and reprogram it. No one at the dealership seemed terribly knowledgeable, nor did they believe that a new SAM would be needed, so I wasn't interested in tossing another $400+ at the issue.
I ended up getting an aftermarket trailer light module and all is well.
If anyone is interested in the harness, plug, and relays to add trailering to their R, let me know. I have it - like new, installed once, but not used...
