06 R350 rear air springs too high

91k, No full airmatic, rear self levelling only.
I had leaking springs so I replaced them both (arnott), no sagging anymore but it seems that they are both too high. The compressor was very loud so I replaced it also, likely got worn trying to keep the springs up while leaking or the relay getting stuck; a good reason to replace those leaking bags asap. I replaced the relay also. Another thing left would be the sensors but there is one on each side, too much coincidence both going out. I do hear from time to time a puff of air from around the valve area, front pass engine bay, possibly when the compressor is done inflating but doesn't happen often.
My guess is that something is preventing the bags from deflating when required, could it be that valve?
Its as if the bags are inflated when there is a heavy load but dont come back down, or possibly the height is normal and just seems high to me, but I've seen others and thy appear lower.
How can I diagnose this further, either sensors or the valve?
