Question New member, new problem

Hi Guys,

Have been lurking for a while, and just purchased a 2006 R500 a couple of weeks ago. Love it so far, but have a few issues to address...

I had the cluster give me the "white" battery icon warning a couple of days ago, which I've read means that the secondary battery is probably finished.

Today while driving in town, it gave me a "red" "Brake fluid too low, Visit workshop" error when I stopped for lunch. I checked the reservoir under the hood, and the level there is fine (midway between low and high marks).

On my way home after lunch, things started to get really weird: the SRS light came on, the instrument cluster reported "communication failure" (I forget the exact wording), and the wipers and signals would only work intermittently or not at all. Other than that, it ran fine as usual.

Reading some more on the forums, it sounds like it might be a CANBUS communication problem somewhere. Is it possible that this weirdness is being caused by the secondary battery being dead? (I thought I read somewhere that the 2nd battery was just for the transmission...)

If it is CANBUS-related, does anyone have pictures or diagrams as to where all of the connector blocks are located in the R500?

Anyways, I'd appreciate any advice or troubleshooting hints you can provide!

Exclamation Update

Interesting update - R500 has been running fine for the last week or so (have been travelling, so haven't been around too much). Still had the white battery warning, but no other issues.

Tonight the weather is similar to December 6th - wet/slushy and hovering around freezing.

I got the "light show" again a few blocks from home, and now the vehicle won't shut off.

10:30PM on New Year's eve, there's not many MB techs around... anyone know how to shut off one of these when the key does nothing? I've tried both keys, flipping back and forth in all positions and removing them does nothing...

Off, but on...

So I downloaded the fuse panel layout and pulled the fuel pump fuses. It took a few minutes, but it eventually stalled out.

The lights are still on and the doors won't lock, but at least it won't cost me an almost full tank of fuel too...

Light show

Here are today's "light show" pics...

In the last picture the engine is stalled, the lights are on, but nobody's home!
