I got a 3 year 50k mile warranty about half a year ago from my Seattle dealer for a little more than what you're quoted at and no deductible through National Warranty Corp. I've used the service twice now to pay for $6,000 in repairs so far and it's been a real pleasant experience.

My dealer does all of the dealing with the warranty company in terms of calling and arranging payment and there isn't much of delay compared to if I paid for all my repairs out of pocket.

It may be worthwhile to look into a warranty from my company, especially considering that my car is an AMG and in theory I paid more for my warranty than one would on an R350.

Basically, though, I think yours is too expensive for too little coverage.

I just picked up my R500 last Thursday as a CPO car from a Mercedes dealership. It came with the Mercedes CPO 1 year warranty for up to 100,000 miles / 12 months. The dealer quoted me $3,200 for an additional 24 months / 24,000 miles through Mercedes with no deductible. So, the prices you guys are being quoted seem in line with the Mercedes program.

I'd start to worry if you were getting quotes that were a lot lower. The actuarial risks with this car are what they are. All the policies should be priced closely for similar coverage. If you are getting a lowball price, it may mean reduced coverage, deductibles, or an insurer who doesn't pay claims. Run away from those. When buying an extended warranty on a car, I want to know the insurer is going to stand behind the policy they wrote.

Oh yeah, one other twist with the Mercedes program. The $3,200 price is good for 30 days. After that, Mercedes imposes a 15% surcharge or about $480. I suppose the farther it gets from the sale date the higher the risk that a problem pops up.

Got as much extended warranty as you can if you plan to keep the car for a while. You will need it for the R-class especially if your R is fully loaded.
