Are those the roof rails off eBay from China? I've always wondered how they attach. Is it just double back tape, drill, or utilize the factory roof rack mounting points?
Allow me to expose my ignorance as well. Most cars I've encountered, especially in the say 05 - 09 time frame, have used a shark fin or similar little bubble mounted on the roof for GPS and satellite radio antennas. Where the hell did Mercedes hide the satellite antennas on the thing? The roof is perfectly smooth and clean. And if Mercedes can do it, why did everyone else put that target for car washes on the roof?
That's something I really like about the R Class- no ugly antenna on the roof. So nice and clean looking. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
Hey I'm no fan of the shark fin on the roof. I like the clean roof for looks and practical reasons like car washes and cleaning snow off the roof. I'm just curious where Mercedes put the satellite antennas and why if Mercedes can hide them other manufacturers need to put fins and hockey pucks on the roof. Status symbol, I got satellite???

I had the same question- but not why other manufacturers don't hide them. Rather, why doesn't MB hide them in all of their cars? Some have the fins some don't. MB didn't have it on the last gen ML but they brought it back for the current one.

Can't be performance. The radio in my R Class holds a satellite signal without interruption better than my Pacificas did and better than my wife's Infiniti. GPS seems to do OK too. Connecticut can be problematic in the summer. We're far enough north, have tiny roads, lots of hills, and pretty thick tree cover when the leaves are green. It's not unusual to have the radio cutting out every few seconds on a some roads I travel regularly. So far the Mercedes seems better than our other cars.

yes, it is the rails from china but I am not sure about the ebay one... this one I am using are mounted with OEM rack screws in the front on the OEM mounting slots, however, the rear ends are mounted on the roof glass with urethane windshield adhesive.(the rails come with the double back tapes but I did not feel good with it) The OEM rear mounting slots I have to leave them empty(the red circle on the picturs).

Acura 05, 06 do have GPS antenna, I got my 2007 Acura RL that do not have GPS antenna same as 08, 09. Then Acura went back to add the GPS antenna on model 2010 +. What the Fxxx?
