Opinion: 2007 R350/4-Matic 70k Miles.

All comments appreciated.

For this model year, are there any peculiar or common mechanical issues that I should beware of?

Thanks to all,
-Alan

Uh huh.

Of course I'm reading everything here, but that doesn’t stop me from soliciting new and additional information.

After I factor in the weighted scale for forum posts (Forums are heavily populated with people who need help, therefore they tend towards the negative) and after talking to owners and mechanics I'll have a better understanding of the actual truth.

But my question was specific in that I am soliciting current feedback.

R500 + SLK55 AMG
3.5L engine had a problem with a balance shaft gear self-destructing

Transmission had a problem with the valve body

Transmission had a problem with the conductor plate

Airmatic suspension bladders can fail early

Airmatic pump can fail from continuous running when a bladder fails

Power steering pump was known to leak

Panoramic roof had corrosion problems and drive system issues

Tail lights have a ground problem from a questionable electrical design

Edit: One more.....power tailgate latch can be a pain in the butt however it's a cheap and easy fix

No problem. The only one that really scares me is the balance shaft problem on the 3.5L engine. That's why I only looked at the R500 V8 and the diesel versions.

Everything else is just bolt on parts. And there's a much cheaper than OEM replacement for the airmatic springs from Arnott.

If you can get the service history on the car, a lot of the known failures may have been taken care of under warranty.
