Intermittent battery drain - tailgate???

Hi, forum!

I wonder if someone has had problems with intermittent battery drains caused by the tailgate?

I have a automatic tailgate and since changing the lock approximately 1,5 years back it has worked (and still does) flawlessly. A couple of months ago I had a couple of battery drains that occurred while the car was parked over night outside the house. I charged the battery and all was fine. I've been using the car as usual and daily using the tailgate without problems.

Now the last couple of weeks it has drained several times (cost me $150 one time to get a boost). I had the car inspected by the workshop and they did a battery test and the battery is healthy and there wasn't any drain when the measured (of course :-( ).

For almost a week I've not been using the tailgate at all and the battery hasn't drained so far and therefore I'm thinking that *maybe* the tailgate might be the culprit?

I wonder if someone else has experienced that the tailgate is working properly but that it somehow doesn't close correctly and draws a current while the car is turned off (or some switch/sensor or something)?

I have looked at lights when parking the car and all (visible) lights go off within half a minute as well as COMAND (NTG 2.5) turning off.

Any help/ideas is deeply appreciated here (tailgate or non-tailgate) - thanks!

BTW, bought a Bolt D28 battery booster, anyone who has used this successfully with their car?

I haven't heard of anything like that, but keep monitoring it. Give it another week without using the tailgate, and then start using it again and see if the problem returns.

If the battery is over 2.5 to 3 years old you need to replace it.

Well, my battery is as old as that and I have no problem cranking up the engine as long as the battery hasn't drained (so the problem isn't the battery itself). In fact, the car sat for 2 weeks this summer while on vacation without any problems.

I still haven't used the tailgate and the battery hasn't drained so far. Tomorrow I must use the tailgate so we'll see how it goes see after that.

Many batteries are good for 8 years+, however, inability to hold a charge is an indication that a battery is on its way out.
