R350 air filter change video

For those who need it, this clip is from a ML-class, the R350 is the same except that the the R350 engine seems to be recessed a few good centimetres both upwards and towards the rear of the car (thank you very much, Mercedes).

You will get bruises and you will swear playing with that central clip (see at 0:54). The video is useful nonetheless.

OK, you need to search deeper for instructions. Those above are OK, but you are missing one real important thing...

You need to remove the cowl support. Once that is out, you will have normal access.

Here is a thread with a PDF that explains what I am talking about.

Don't let the title fool ya, it works for the 350 as well...

I didn't watch the video but after recently purchasing my R I wanted to take a look at the air filters. If you take everything off that you are supposed to as explained in the link josworth posted it is quite simple. Mine looked practically new, nice and white and all the pleats were nice and straight.

When I bought mine (a CDI) it looked like the filters had never been changed. But on the diesels it's pretty difficult to get the airboxes out because they're contour formed and tightly packed down the sides of the engine. I wouldn't be surprised even if an indy mechanic wanted a couple hundred dollars to replace them.

Done!

It took me about 10 minutes to dismantle it and 10 minutes to put it back together. I gave a good wash & brush with soap to the filter holder inside and out, as well as to the air intakes, and let them dry for a while before putting it back together. A lot of black crap came out, especially from the intakes.

The cowl support was slightly difficult to fit at the end, I had to giggle it a bit.

Overall easy job (and I'm far from being a pro).
