How many brake sensors do I need?

I've got an '06 R350, and the brake sensor wear warning just came on. I've changed pads (and rotors) on my other cars, but this will be the first time on a Benz. I bought new pads, read some posts, watched some vids, and feel confident I can put the new pads in. But I can't tell how many new brake sensors I'll need. so..

1) How many do I need? I've read some reports that they're only on one side

2) Are the sensors the same for front and rear? Looking on Amazon, I see different model numbers for front vs. rear, but the "This will fit your car" function says the same item will fit front and rear.

Thanks!

One in the front and one in the back (I did not change them yet). They are not that expensive, so you just pick them up at your local MB and you will be sure to get the correct parts.

They're both on the passenger side. +1 on what AsianR350 said. Get them at the dealer - there are a couple variants and it would be a waste of effort to save one or dollars trying to get them online.

I got mine at autozone. They had it listed front and rear but the same part number. I am sure I saved a few dollars but really don't care much. They are not a vital part if you keep up with the car. My brake warning went off and I road it for a good 7000 miles until I did the brakes. I reality I could have done another 7k. I am not saying this is what everyone should do, just what I did. I got them for about $7. as long as they don't throw false positives I am not worried.
