'06 R500, Noise when accelerating, CV, Axle?
Not much I know about this car since it is so complicated but I have owned it for 3 years, just found a new noise that is not a good one.. Under acceleration there is a noise like the drive shaft to the wheels are skipping or not connecting, I don't have a better way to explain it but only under acceleration this grinding noise and feeling and the car won't accelerate.. I am hoping its not axles and have had someone say CV joints? I really don't know much but I love this car and really don't have big money right now to put back into it, but I have access to a lift and a good mechanic... suggestions? Anyone had this problem?

Too many possibilities. The car is still running though? Any other warning lights or CEL?
Could be the drive shaft support bearing.

The motor is fine, once moving there is no noise, its just under acceleration that this "spinning" feel of like 2 pieces trying to spin together but the noise is as though the pieces or gears are not connecting.. and it feels as though its in the front axle. I don't really know how else to explain it.. I appreciate your help, and really with all the problems that I have read about with the R this one is absent...

Whenever you have a noise like that, it is best to get it diagnosed asap. What may be a relatively cheap fix now can turn out to be an expensive fix down the road if you keep driving it. Cv joints/axles aren't too expensive so if this is what's broken, you should be fine. Post your results please.

Hi Bill J, it can be an expensive, but quite common problem for big MB SUVs and Rs with 200k km, at least here in Europe. GL, ML & R share the same part.
Part #: A2512800900, A2512802700, A2512801200, A2512801300, the newer the better for the used ones.

Repair costs in Europe: an used box ca. 1k EUR + work, or a new rebuild at the same price. I did let rebuild mine in Germany a few days ago and am satisfied – now the full power again at my disposition
The new part costs 3.8k EUR.
(This is not an advertising, just a link to show the possibly faulty part. Google translate should work).
Regarding the driving with the problem: if you really need to finish the journey –than do it, gently as possible of course. Because the problem comes from the overjumping weary chain; and during the replacement/rebuild everything 100% of the inside parts will be replaced anyway.
I hope this info was helpful.
