2006 R500 EGR replacement

My 2006 R500 with about 56K miles has check engine light warning and it seems exhaust gas recirculation warning and need EGR valve cleaning or replacement.

Does any one has writeup on EGR cleaning and/or replacement on 2006 R500? I am ok to replace it since the cost is about $100 if I can do it myself. Where is the EGR located on the R500?

Thanks all.

Thanks a lot, Plotoe. I guess I will try follow the steps and see I can attempt. Anyone else attempted this?

Is it possible you can also send me the instructions for:
(1) remove and install a new power steering fluid reservoir
(2) replace engine air filter

Thank in Advance!!

Sorry to be so down on this, but seems that you have never done any work on this car such as changing the air filter. Are you sure you have the tools necessary? I suggest you take a look under the hood to see. Many bolts are female Torx You will need an assortment of these. Even the air filter is a male Torx

All,

I was able to replace the air filter from $25 OE filter from major online store. The old filter seems to be not that bad although discolored but it is I think at least 15,000 miles/4 years old. I do see little improvement in acceleration and mileage as per mileage computer.

One thing I noticed is that rear clips for the engine airfilter housing cover are not very tight. Is it possible that engine cover can move up/down going over the bumps temporarily sucking unfiltered air from the air entry circular opening on the engine? Why I am doubting is that when I went over one of speed bumps at a bit high speed, the "check engine light" came up. (This was about 2 months ago). The CEL is still there even after replacing the air filter.

I saw the EGR on the back of the engine. Is EGR removed accessing from up of engine or from beneath/behind side?

Thanks!
