17 inch wheels ?????? will it clear the big *** calipers on front ?

question, before trying them on at the sellers place and waisting my time.....

would like to puy 17 inch wheels on my R.......more rubber, more comfort and cheaper tires for the winter.

would use them as winter wheels only, would still use the 19 for summer....

someone has tried ? does that clear the front brakes ? or not ??

any input would be apreciated...

thanks

on a 2006 r500.....

I think you should be able to ... i know that some R's came standard with 17's (but i'm not sure about the R500 .. mines a 500 also)
But i found this listing which is labelled for a R500 (presumably came off one directly) on ebay because i happen to be selling the exact same wheel but 18's (and with brand new pirellis for half that price lol)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-R5...-/222397439558
So i'm guessing it should be ok
Best of luck with it !

yes, the early Rs had 17 inch wheels.. 235-65-17 tires. The R500 had 18 inch wheels . the front disks where 13.8 vs 13 inch. not that much bigger.

i put 17 inch wheels from an ML for winter . they are great.

here is the list of wheels offered for the R in the 2006 wheel brochure. No mention of any restriction for the R500.
as well as for the ML.... just as a comparison... different offset btw but mine are from an ML and work fine.

I had 17" wheels from ML on my 2007 R350 gas.Had to ditch them when swapped for 2012 R350 diesel as rims did not fit in the front.
Now I am using 18" (again from ML) for the winter and they are good, even though there is very little space between rim and caliper.
The winter tires 235/60R18 are in the cheaper market segment and have same external diameter as my summer 19".
