Question 2007 R350 - Steering wheel buttons replacement?

Hi folks,

As some of you may have experienced, 2007 R350 has its buttons aged, faces fading out and otherwise needing replacement. Dealer says entire steering wheel ($$$$) needs to be replaced; which is silly. Can I rely on the wisdom of you experts to get me some new buttons? Particularly left button bank on a tan colored steering wheel.

Thanks.

Let me reply to my own post -- after additional digging, I found following parts as likely candidates for what I'm looking for. They go for about $150 each; although not sure what's involved in taking them out (without accidentally triggering airbag or something).

Right Java:
SWITCH COVER - MERCEDES-BENZ (164-820-00-10-1460)

Left Java:

I can't comment on this specific repair, but you can often replace 'sub-parts' on parts of your car, saving you a lot of money. Dealers and automakers have an incentive to sell you expensive, brand new, 'genuine' parts. They are making more money off of that.

Also - you can buy decals that are supposedly pretty good.
Clean off the buttons, apply stickers that make them look like new.

Do a little googling and you'll find Youtube videos on how to remove the steering wheel. Also the sticker kits to cover up the buttons. I don't yet have any repair experience with MB specifically but ALWAYS disconnect the battery before doing anything electrical to a vehicle. This is especially true when working near the airbags, and our cars seem to have airbags EVERYWHERE. I replaced these switches on my 2005 GMC Yukon and it wasn't difficult at all. I hope it is as easy for you on your MB.
