Considering ‘07 R320 - Advice/Experience

We’re thinking about an ‘07 R320 CDI with 117k miles, 1 owner, all maintenance at the local dealership, interior is excellent, clean carfax.

Private sale - $9,700

These are all good signs. It’s still a 14 yr old car and first year production. I can’t find ‘07 320 CDI comps. I can find some ‘08 gas 350s but not sure how to compare price to this model.

We had an ‘11 GLK and I was frustrated with the ergonomics, the on-column shifter, the tiny glove box, etc. so that’s playing a factor in my hesitancy.

This would be a season dependent daily driver for the fuel efficiency. I’m in NW Colorado with some pretty extreme winters. I have a truck for heavy snows.

How are these engines in cold regions?

Does 8,000’ elevation affect these engines?

Anyone have recent experience buying/selling one of these?

I appreciate any thoughts on this.

Cheers!

2006 R500
For that era, if the transmission hasn't been replaced/rebuilt, plan on having that done. 2009+ should have the fixed transmission. The R320 CDI engine is the same as other 320 CDI's, and the W251 is electronically identical to the W164 and X164 cars.

For the 350 gas engines, you want to go 2009+. The older ones have a problem with the balance shaft that can be a ticking time bomb if it wasn't addressed yet.

Forced induction will always do better than NA in high altitudes. Go test drive a gas R350 before committing to it. IMO the 350 is underpowered for a vehicle the size and weight of the R class.

This place is a joke.
The diesel engine is junk. Do some research. Also, it's worth no more than $7500 and that's being generous. Book value is from $4500 to $6500. The diesel engine repairs will far exceed any fuel savings over the V6 or V8 gas engines.
