Can we add Distronic or Distronic Plus?

Can we add Distronic or Distronic Plus?
I have been on the hunt for a W251 with Distronic for several months and it has been impossible to find.
If I bite the bullet on one without Distronic, can I source the parts from the dealer and add it myself? I don’t see why not. And if that’s the case, can I some how retrofit a Distronic Plus system from let’s say a W221?

Your best bet would be to get the parts from W164/X164 as our cars are almost electrically identical to them.
I have not found a single successful thread about retrofitting Distronic into W164 or X164. Distronic Plus seems like it was never adapted for our cars.
Edit: A person on MHH claims to have retrofitted Distronic onto multiple W164s.
