Random Dashboard lights and misfire to follow

I have a random error that has happed 3 times in the past 9 months. The ESP and ABS lights will light up while I'm driving down the road the check engine light will come on and then the vehicle will start misfiring cylinders 3 and 6. I get some codes for speed sensors on the front that have never worked since I got the car. It has 220k miles on it now. Also says resistance values in the ignition circuit are too high.

When this happens i can literally park the car turn it off and restart it. Even the check engine light will go off and the car will act properly for months again. It is very intermittent, but I am restoring the vehicles paint and doing some things to fix it up since I enjoy driving the vehicle. Prior 7 months of ownership I never had this issue. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, coils, plugs, cam adjusters, and cam adjuster pigtails.

What could the issue be?

My thoughts:
  • steer wheel angle sensor going out... I do have some play in the column causing it to rotate some when I press the signals or gear selector. It's about a 10 degree pivot. I'm wondering it that is causing a random short in the wheel
  • Alternator. I know a spiking alternator can cause some errors like as well. The thing that doesn't make sense is the misfire that comes with it. It won't stop the misfire until the ignition is turned off and back on.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My guess is when the misfire is first detected it disables that cylinder, which is why it doesn't go away until a restart.

Alternator is a good start. Checking ground at the battery and making sure all electrical connections look good would be the other check.
