Bought used R63 almost year ago, with "100 broken things" with 460 000km on the clock, yes 460 000 no typo.

The life learned me one thing about cars, that it doesn't mater how many km is on the clock, it's just a number.


Car was driveable, but something was with suspension. Car was lower than it should, but no error message and
also idling rpms was very high, but i took it /good price, full option, and long wheelbase..../

I believe the car has all option, except trailer hitch (550) /which I installed imediately with right wiring harness to SAM/ and heated steering wheel which i think wasn't option for W251 and plan to retrofit later.

Option E37 is missing. I'll find previous owner and ask him, if he still have bags at home.

Alcantara is on the roof and pillars, and dash with door panels are in leather, which looks way better than plastic in my R350.

At home i found that somebody recoded airmatic ecu to supress warning messages, and found crack on airmatic's compresor. So I took one from my 2pillow R350 and suspension is working flawlessly except it took little longer to build pressure, becouse 4pilow and 2pillow compressor is different.

Then disconnected cable from valve body on R350 and i drove without compressor alomst two weeks until new compressor arived

high rpms and lean mixture was caused by manifold gaskets, so i replaced them and PCV too. Also dismantled and stripped manifold, to check if throttle body plate is ok.
Finally drill holes and coil them for future propane conversion /LPG/

never touched engine internals, engine coolant is leaking/disappearing somewhere and cooling system is quite pressurized so it seems, that head gaskets are compromised - it needs future observations
also didn't pass emisions test last month due to catalysts. I bought brand new catalysts, but have no time to replace them.

 

"everyone" hère is rebuilding his engine, so do I.

 

Thanks for sharing the photos. Can you tell us more about what you found and what has to be replaced? The camshafts look good in the photo, but there is a lot of carbon on the top of the pistons and around the valves.

 

simply water everywhere, in CATS, in AT... you should see map on the bain block and color of lambda probe.

6 followers are scratched, lobes on exhaust cams are ok, on intake cams some of them are starting to wear off... i think that adding little of zinc additive and changing oil every 8000km should do the trick. And prolonge their lives.

new alternator, new seals, 6 valve lifters, water pump, both heads were made /valve seats and seals, -0,08mm. various hoses, chain+ rails, chain tensioner, oil pump chain+tensioner, power steering reservoir, etc....
