Flashing low fuel level

Has anyone experienced a flashing low fuel level light? Its happened to me twice . The car will be idling while I'm washing it or whatever and the low level light will begin to flash even though there is a half tank of gas. Is this a warning of wasting gas due to idling for a long period of time or not. Anyone else experience this?

The was an instance where high sulfur fuel in Florida caused the tank senders of a lot of cars to malfunction. Maybe you should have the fuel in your car checked or have the sender checked.

The one time this happened to me I called the dealer. He told me that my gas cap was not secured. Sure enough, my wife hadn't locked it down and the cap was hanging off.

Gas cap off

Yeah H-man that was the first thing I checked but it was not the case. Next time its in for service I'll mention it and have it checked. I may have a leak in the evap system somewhere. Thanks

Yep ,I had that issue a few months ago.It had something to do wth a vacuum sender ,something related to the fuel system located in the gas tank. My mechanic replaced it(defective sender) and voila the low fuel flashing light and evap system code issue was gone. This sender creates a vacuum in the gas tank and since it was'nt creating vacuum any more the flashing light and CEL came on.You know it's bad when you open your gas cap while the car is turned off and you don't hear the suction noise when your tank is half full.No suction noise then you have a defective sender.FYI Good Luck!
