1999 S420 they won't turn
Today when I put my key into the ignition it will not turn to the #1 position. It will turn out of the zero position but will not engage all the way to start the car. If I hold the key against the #1 position I do get my srs light and all electrical functions work. One thing I noticed when rapidly turning the key back and forth I hear a clang/bop noise under the drivers footwell like something is engaging nut not all the way. I noticed too when removing the key from the ignition it does not make that noise it makes when removing it. I just pull the key out.
Any suggestions before taking it to a repair shop?

I'm thinking it might be the ignition as well. It is stuck between the 0 and 1 position but the key will come out. Because of this the battery is running down. I can lock/unlock the steering colum which I guess is good. I've decided to leave it alone and stop messing with it before I cause damange by trying to get the key turned. I'm having it towed to the shop hopefully today.
