Unhappy 1994 S420 Transmission problem

Dear Experts,
I have a S420 1994, lately it seems to have the transmission problem.
When I start the car, shift gear to R or D, the car seems to jerk a bit, when I drive the car is OK. I asked Mercedes dealer for rebuilt transmission it would cost me $6K alone (no labor cost yet, I'm in Ottawa Canada). Do you have any idea what this might cause. Is this true transmission problem or just some engagement (electronic or vacuum) problem.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sounds like it could be a pretty serious problem. Get that thing into a inde shop ASAP. Could be serious but yet simple at the same time and could possibly be saving that $6,000 on a rebuild.
