Transmission 722.9 Drive To Workshop Without Changing Gear
This transmission is in a 2006 ML350. I posted in that forum but no one seems to want to answer there so I am venturing out to another area where people actually work on their cars......Hopefully someone here is willing/able to help. I don't want to start buying/replacing parts without some level of certainty that I am focusing on the correct component.
Original post:
Symptoms;
- "Drive to workshop without changing gears" displayed in red.
- Whine coming from a component on side of transmission ***see photo/video*** when turning off vehicle and locking doors.
- Will not shift from park.
I believe the part that's making the whining noise is the Transmission Shift Control Module. Can anyone confirm that this is the part from the photo? Is it possible that the whine is being caused by a bad relay or is it for sure the unit itself that's gone bad?
If I have to replace this module I've read that it has to be programmed for my vehicle by the STAR computer. Is it possible to re-program a used one or am I stuck buying a new one?
