W140 - Merc S500 coupe (1995) - "Few" issues...

Hello, everyone!

I've recently purchased a 1995 Merc S500 coupe and am sorting through few "issues." The vehicle itself has 121,000 miles and looks great.

Namely, my problems are:

1. There is a noise coming from rear suspension/shocks (?) I can hear it as I drive, as I get in and out of the vehicle, etc. (It is also noticeable to pedestrians.)

2. The cruise control does not work (looks similar to the W126 Mercs and am assuming same procedure to repair?)

3. I seem to be missing the rear fuse box card (which lists and identifies the fuses of the rear fuse box.) Can anyone please provide me with a clear image of the rear fuse box card?

4. The doors/trunk soft-close feature does not seem to work. (I've taken a look at few YouTube vids and have an idea what has to be done.)

5. The gas pedal seems a bit hard to press. I can't imagine this was originally the case. Is there an adjustment I can make to make the pedal easier to press?

6. Is there a way I can make the rear of the car ride a few inches or so higher? (My old W123 300TD wagons could be "dialed" up, is it a similar thing with the W140 coupes?)

Also, some years back, it was possible to get a "birth certificate" of a given Merc from Mercedes-Benz. If I remember correctly, this has been discontinued. Do any of you have a suggestion as to where I can turn to find out how much this car sold for originally, where it was sold/delivered to, list of options, etc.?

While I've owned a number of R107 and W126 coupes, this is my very first W140 coupe. I am aware of the wiring "issues" that can creep up along the way. (I'm assuming for an early-to-mid 1990s W140 vehicle to have made it this war, the wiring harnesses must have been replaced?)

Thank you very much in advance.

(Have owned crazy-diverse collection of mostly bread & butter Merc's over the years, including Ponton Mercs, early 1972 309D Omnibuses (x3), an ex-Bundeswehr Unimog radio truck, a T1 truck, and dozens of coupes, sedans, roadsters, (mostly 1960s, 70s, & 80s) etc., etc.)

Welcome to MBWORLD and to the C140 family. The rear suspension is self leveling so the noise could be blown accumulaters the level can be adjusted there is a video from Mercedessource that has good information. Unsure where you can find the original price CarFax or any vehicle history check can provide details on original delivery, a vin decoder would provide you a full list of options on your car. Benzworld is more active on the W140 and C140 and is more responsive.

Thank you! :)

Thank you for your replies and links concerning the Mercedes data card/vin decoder and the SLS. I was a bit nostalgic as I watched the first episode of the SLS repair videos. I have a very soft spot in my heart for W123 Mercs; especially the wagons. (I've owned four TD's in the past.) I am also fond of the classic W126 Merc coupe. (I've owned an '85 500SEC, an '89 560SEC, and a '91 560SEC.) While I did not have issues with the hydraulics in the SEC's, three out of four of the W123 wagons had "issues" which caused them to bounce like kangaroos!) The only W126 I had similar issues was with an '85 500SE (gray market) and it too, bounced like a bunny! Where my W140 S500 Coupe is concerned, I do not have the typical bouncy ride issues (which result due to bad accumulators?) On the otherhand, I definitely have a bad accumulator or two on my '95 W124 e320 wagon and of course, the bouncy ride is the norm for this car. The lack of a bouncy ride, combined with the noise that I have not heard on the other W123/126/124 chassis vehicles led me to suspect just maybe there was another component failed/failing on the W140.

I've stream captured the Mercedessource videos (except the episodes 10 & 11 seem to be missing) and will be watching them later on tonight.

Mercedes W140 vacuum pump problems

I have a problem with the PSE vacuum pump on my Mercedes S320 1995, the one on the right side on the floor of the passenger seats.

When i put the car in reverse, the trunk lid pop out, but the reverse assistant antennas dont come out.

When i put the car in drive the trunk lid go inside again.

i never replace this pump, so the hoses are in the right places.

This start to happen after the battery died.

Thank you very much for your kind reply, and I have watched many of your Merc repair videos in the past and think you are the bee's knees sir! (I have also watched your vid's on your former S600 coupe, aka Coffee Run?)

Re: Original price, the only VIN decoders I managed to find reside in Russia...

Thank you again for your response.
