Hi there. So I found a wonderful new salesperson who I am going to meet with again on Friday. He says the 2015 cars are the same as 2016 except for very minor things. I was told the same thing with my BMW that has a lease ending in 5 months. However, I do know that they make small tweeks that are often very beneficial.
My biggest wish is that they continue to update and improve the nav and computer system. My Beemer's is not perfect but each year it gets better. Does anyone know if there will be smaller updates to the S550's computer software to make it better in 2016 vs 15? Is there a list someplace of the updates? Or can I get a 2015 car and ask for the 2016 software update? Not just the map but the whole system?
Thanks so much for any advice. Katherine

Technically, the addition of NFC will have usability improvements but most likely not offer any additional functionality at this time.
Speed limit assist is so worthless IMO that it's barely worth mentioning. I get a more accurate speed limit readings on our Passport Max radar detector.
Either way, IMO none of the changes are worth choosing a 16 over a 15.
Re. colors, the Selenite gray is only available from sometime on October but it is a nicer color than the Palladium gray.

IF...
NFC will be used in the 2016 to allow leaving the Smart key at home, then this would be worth something to me.
With 3 identical keys, I found myself more than once sitting in the car inside the garage realizing I took the wrong one![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
Personally, I don't care for a remote starting feature

When I ordered my 2016 towards the end of June, the salesman mentioned to me that the 2016 will have remote start through Iphone (I guess this would be through NFC). He mentioned this in passing and I did not follow-up with a question or inquire further since my 2014 S550 4matic was totaled and I needed to order a 2016 since I could not find a vehicle with all the options I wanted in the entire US with my exterior and interior color combination. This is just what I was told with no verification.

Just met with the sales person today and we decided that I would need to order a 2016 to find a car that has all the options I would like (upgraded stereo especially) without the many unnecessary rear seat packages that are out there. He could not give me pricing however. Is that how one orders? When I custom ordered my BMW 2 years ago, I negotiated the price and the lease terms well in advance of the order.

When I ordered my 2016 at the end of June, I negotiated the price before I placed the order. Dealers can do this however they want (pricing or not pricing at order time) or however you want. I like to negotiate the price, sign a bill of sale, and get a PO number so I know MBUSA accepted my order. Personally I would not order a car without negotiating the price but that is just me. Others on this site have ordered and negotiated the price at time of delivery.
The way I look at this is there are two transactions--the car and the financing/paying cash/leasing. If one is going to lease or finance a purchase, these numbers can only be done at or close to delivery--no dealer will work these numbers in until you are about to take delivery since they involve a third party finance company--either MB Financial or another financial institution. They may give you estimates on leasing or financing but they will be only estimates until time of delivery. But the purchase price of the vehicle can be done at the time of order.
I too had to order the 2016 since I ordered every option except the $6400 upgraded stereo system and the refrigerator. I found out from the dealer there are only so many production slots for the rear aircraft type tray tables so my production slot is scheduled for the second decade of August which is between August 11th and August 20th otherwise I may have been able to get a July production slot.
I did not order the upgraded stereo system since the base Burmeister system in the US spec cars is absolutely awesome and for me I could not justified the dollars for the additional system--my 2014 S Class standard Burmeister system beats the living ___ out of the 2008 S Class Harmon Kardon system I had. I could not justify the upgraded stereo system even though I justified all the rear seat components including the tray tables. All personal choice.

Thank you so much for the detailed answer. So prices ARE available for 2016 then. He said they are not. Hmmmm. I agree the lease terms need to be done closer to the delivery. Is there room to negotiate a 2016? They offered me $10k off of a $120,000 priced 2015. I was not that impressed but I also wasn't quite at the point of haggling yet.
For the order of the 2016, I would like SOME opportunity to negotiate as it is going to be also around $120,000 assuming prices don't go up on equipment. This is what I am looking at:
Upgraded stereo
Sports package
Premium package
HUD
3-D camera
Driver Assist Package

Unfortunately either the person you are talking to is not properly informed or they do not want to tell you the prices of the 2016.
Prices on the base MSRP are up $1250. MBUSA released the prices publicly to the media I think on June 15th. If you go to MBUSA and configure your car for a 2015 model, add $1250 and you have the MSRP of your order for 2016.
I have attached the MSRP of my order from the MB Netstar system for a 4matic. The non-4matic is $3000 less on the base MSRP.

Take a look at the end of this webpage as it shows the MSRP for the US 2016 S Class 4matic and non 4matic.

Thanks. Sales guy still insists that he cannot give me final pricing BUT he said he would just order the car I want without even a deposit as he is pretty sure we will be able to meet the financial goals I have for the car. Once it comes in, we can negotiate. That sounds good to me. In the meantime, I am still looking at 2015 inventory although all the ones with the upgraded stereo have high price tags ($130-140k range with lots of other upgrades I don't need) so unless they get some good incentives in the coming months, I won't be able to get a '15.

it's a must option for such a luxury car and it's pretty amazing.

I just read that the NFC in the new E-Class can eliminate the key altogether and will work even if the phone is out of power (via passive NFC).
Moving forward NFC will be used for automatically setting the driver profile (seats, mirror, audio/radio setting, steering wheel, etc.). This is only what, 15 years overdue?
My biggest concern is MB's backwards approach of rolling these changes out in snail pace and by country and never retroactively.

OK so I put in my order for the 2016. My sales guy is on vacation now and he said he'd be back in about 10 days. But he placed the order yesterday. However, I am worried that I didn't specify the active cruise control. Is that a separate package/addon that I needed to say or is that part of my upgrade list:
Upgraded stereo
Sports package
Premium package
HUD
360 camera
Driver Assist Package
Can that be added on after the fact? Or should I call the dealership manager and have him quickly add it on now? ARGH. I am losing sleep from all this.
BTW the sales guy said there are "minor changes" to the software that controls the radio, the map system, etc. He said very small but user friendly changes to the software. He didn't have a list but if I find out, I will post it. Getting excited. Opted for the Diamond White metallic with the Nut Brown Nappa leather.![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

OK great. Thanks. I need to stop losing sleep over this build. Somehow it was so much easier with my 7series 3 years ago. There were not nearly this many options. Things like the HUD were standard.

That's a week away!!! You must be thrilled. My guy just put the order in and he said probably first week of October... I forget which "slot" he told me. I'll have to ask him when he comes back from vacation.
