Newrear struts

I am close to 90k miles on my 2015 S550 coupe and I noticed a clunking noise from the rear right side when going over bumps. Took it to an independent shop and they said it was the strut due to wear and recommended replacing both sides. Parts + labor is just shy of $4k. Does this sound about right?

bilstein Shocks are 12-1500 a piece. Labor does not require much time imo. DIY in my driveway its never taken more than an hour for any strut to include airmatic or abc. No special programming needed.

I would ask him for a breakdown on labor and parts. He is probably including a 4 wheel alignment. As Stan wrote the struts are 1500.00 each.

Struts, also known as air suspension bags are extremely easy to replace. One or two fasteners and the air supply line are all that get disconnected from the old airbag and reconnected on the new. The bags can be had for $400-$600 each from reputable aftermarket suppliers. Having the work done at an independent garage should run $1500- $2200. These suspension parts are almost always replaced because they begin leaking and causing the suspension to sag. If the cause is a mechanical issue other than a leak and it requires a replacement, it wouldn’t make a difference if you did both sides or not. If it’s leaking, before replacing the airbag be sure it’s not the valve block that’s leaking. That is much less expensive to replace.
