Greetings from the USA. I would appreciate some guidance regarding S coupe C 217. As an owner of 2012 CL 550 with unfortunate experience, I am scared of purchasing used C217. My CL 550 broke down so much, planetary transmission gear, gearbox (10K USD), airmatic suspension and at the end the whole audio system. Just repairs cost me 20.000 in < 1 year.

Are there any models or years I should avoid in C217 generation? is there a major advantage of getting a 2018 onwards car? Any particular weak points I need to check before purchase?

Any advice is much appreciated. I am choosing between S coupe and 2019-2020 E450.

Thank you very much in advance, hopefully my next MB experience will be more pleasant that the past one.

I bought one of the first C217’s back in 2015 and still have it today. It’s never been in for warranty repairs, and my out of pocket costs have been strictly for maintenance items that I do pretty much myself. There are a lot of electrical and electronics systems that can give trouble so choose the one you buy carefully.

I own a 2017 Cab S550 and a 2019 S560 Coupe. Both purchased new.
I had a coil go bad in the S550 Cab. But, other than that both have been trouble free.
I do prefer the 2019 Coupe because of engine improvements engine seems more powerful and responsive.,
So bottom line I would recommend a 2018 or later. But either one should give you much pleasure and reliability.
Good-luck.

if you want your cab to be more responsive than your coupe install a Pedal Box, Sprint, or similar device. It transforms the car without making any system changes. It’s fully adjustable and easy to install. German cars all have some amount of latency built into the drive by wire accelerator and this eliminates it all.
