1978 450 SEL Fog Lights
I'm new to the board and I have a question. I recently bought a 1978 450 SEL. One of the fog lights was burnt out, so I went to replace it.
I (foolishly) attempted to replace the bulb based on sight, rather than the actual part number.
The bulb that was in the car was 64151, a 55W, 12v bulb.
I replaced it with a 64153, a 100W, 12v bulb.
The bulbs have the same connecting wire, but the metallic base of the bulb is slightly different. The 64153 is keyed with an extra hump on the base.
This extra bump makes it unable to gracefully sit in the base of the fog light housing. My brute-force solution to this was to bend the hump back with a pair of plyers so that it could sit in the fog light housing.
The light appears to function propperly. Am I incurring any risks by doing this?
