problem with gear box and engine Mercedes 380 SEL
I allow myself to contact you because I do not know what to do.
I am French and new owner of a 380 SEL Sedan of 1982.
I found this car (49,100 miles) in a barn where it was since 1989 (date of its US import) without driving.
I did everything that is recommended to restart it (2 tank changes, change of pump and fuel filter, cleaning of spark plugs, engine drain, ...) and the engine starts very well now and goes up well in regime.
So far (apart from idling, which tends to stay at 1800 rpm despite cleaning the idle valve control), I would say everything is fine.
When I wanted to ride, everything went well for 300 or 400 meters (the speeds of the automatic gear went well) the car began to graze (with engine failures and loss of power).
I tried several times and always the same.
Now it is the forward speeds that do not pass (the reverse very well but with the same symptoms of grazing after a while).
By acquaintance I changed the two rubber gearshift linkage but the forward speeds still do not engage.
Can you help me please or communicate to me the contact of someone who could help me?
Thanking you in advance,
Best regards
Erick Lazarus
