Upgrading Engine From 280 To a powerfull one??
Please somebody would let me know if it is possible to upgrade a 280SEL with a more powerfull engine (the reason is that this car is bulletproof so it is pretty heavy for the engine) thanks

Here are the option.. ordered by cost in increasing order
a rebuilt 560 egine..and trans
rebore 5.6 to 6.0 liter, beef compression to 10.0:1 and drop in a thicker radiator with some body modification.. and ur car would be a rocket
rebuilt / used M119 V8 from S500-W140 + trans
rebuilt / used V12 from S600-W140 + trans
Hemi 6.1 engine from dodge, lots of power and ability to disable 4 cylinders when V8 power is not needed saves ya 30% in fuel cost. Plus it would be the orignal thing as it is built by DaimlerChrysler and the trans is built by mercedes

universal engine mounts
you could defenatly put in a non-mercedes engine. my friend's dad had some old 70s mercedes (i can't remember what kind) and he found universal engine mounts on the net, it went from a 280 mercedes engine to a chevy small block. it won't kill in a race, but it defenatly beats out a new honda civic which is still preaty good. and i think you could put an even bigger engine in.
