ignition module replacement? is it worth it??

hi

any info will help thanks

my dad has a 1990 420sel with 150k miles on it. The dealer said the ignition module will have to be replaced. That part costs $1900. i think that's without labor costs.

Is it worth replacing if i can get a used module for $300? I dunno how much longer that car is going to run, especially in the winter. It has a whole slew of problems.

He will eventually get a bmw 750 or audi A8 but he wants to ride the car out and get his money's worth. The car has been in the family for almost 16 years. I think it's time to let it RIP.

ANyone have any experience with replacing the ignition module? does this part failure mean there's more troubles to come?
