500 SEC AMG Window Problem

Just picked up an '82 500SEC Euro AMG to tinker with. Car has a host issues, but for the moment I'm just taking care of a few to make the car more useful...to decide if I'll keep it to restore or move on down the road.

The pass. side window stops going up about 1" from the top then makes a loud banging/popping noise. Pulled off door panel and can't see anything amiss other than a black plastic piece sitting in the bottom of the door. It's about 3" long and 5/8" wide. It looks like it clips on somewhere. With a mirrow I can see the gears on the motor and they look fine. I can fix this if I know what to look for.

Any advice would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cliff

sounds as if the regulator and motor are out of time with each other. It could also be that the regulator and motor are not matched up as the manufacturer. There wer about 3 different types from different manufacturers Brose and some others.

Check into what was specified for your car and then check the part # of the reg and the motor to see if they are correct.

Problem solved

Well later on in the week when I posted the window issue, I pulled out the regulator and found broken teeth. I opted to find a used one instead of paying $225 for a new one. With borken one in tow off to the salvage yard I went. Hit pay dirt. They had a 1980's 280CE and since this was a coupe as well I took a gamble and pulled the door panel and regulator. They looked indentical so I paid the $16 and headed home. Works like a champ.

I wonder if the rear window regulators are the same on the CE as the SEC?

you will find that this is common with MB as with any other manufacturer. w126 cars share a lot of components with the w123. just like w201s and w124s share a lot of parts.
