Newbie! Mercedes 500SEL Help!!

Im very close to buying a black w/ maroon interior 1984 500sel US model. It has 93k miles and is in very good condition. Everything stock, including original full size spare and original mercedes extra wheel. Inspected and new tires. It has records stamped from mercedes dealerships up till 80k and has routine oil changes recorded afterwards. Only has had two owners etc. Im buying it for 4k. Drives great etc. Is this a reasonable price??? Ive seen other s-classes, like 420/560 with no records and no inspection sell for like around 6-7k with similar or less miles on ebay and local. Wondering if the 1984 500sel is a good model vs. the other s-classes. Any issues with a purchase like this that I should be aware of???
Please Help!!!

A site which may intrest you.

I hope I am not too late. I purchased a 300SE with 225000 miles on it and it runs like a champ.. Well had to replace the fuel pump the other day but other than that it is great. I read many threads and hit many sites inorder to make my decision... here is a good one. Check it out... http://home.concepts.nl/~vlimmere/index2.HTM
Click on the buying tip button... It may help you make a better decision of the purchase. Other than that, they are nice cars... I purchased my car from a mercedes family..., and they took very good care of it. When I purchased it, they sold it for little or nothing because they new my passon for the 126s... As for price, it seems about right if it is in the condition you mentioned. But it is up to you. if you are happy with the price, is should be fine. There will always be someone who will tell you that they saw one, could have got one, or something cheeper or better than what you got. If you are happy, don't worry... and prepair to enjoy and read these threads....

I purchased my 84 500 SEL for $87.00 (the price of the diagnostic) drove it 50 miles @ 80 mph to my shop, only to find out that the previous shop had stolen the radio and mounting brackets/ash try, heater blower motor, sun roof motor mounting brackets (they dont make them anymore) sunroof cable and guide, fuse relay's, and swapped good rims for bad ones (none of the tires match) on top of that the diagnostic was incorrect. 2k in parts later I like the car.

You didn't notice all the radio and ash tray missing during that 50 mile drive?
