Rear crankshaft radial sealing ring

Hello all,

Because my '91 500SEC was leaking engine oil which was blown on the exhaust and smelling, I brought my SEC to the workshop to replace the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring. After the first attempt, the engine was leaking again in 1 day. I went back to the workshop, and they tried to investigate the cause of the leaking. First they thought the headgaskets where the cause, I must admit the do leake slightly on the corners on the back side of the engine, but this is more a case off "slightly wet" than realy leaking. After investigating carefully the workshop decided it has to be something with the new oil sealing ring.
So, off went the transmission again (free of charge). I was not able to withness the engine with the transmission removed unfortunately. I was told by the workshop the cover which is holding the oil seal was leaking, and they fitted the cover this time with sealing joint. Guess what, after one day the engine is leaking again on the same spot, the joint of transmission and engine.

I have been looking in the WIS (workshop manual) and the manual states that you should change the seal without removing the seal cover Might this be the cause of the problem?

Any one has experiences with changing this oils seal? I am a little desperate.

Thanks, Frits
