Timing Chain screw up warning explicit pics
So this is what happens when you let your timing chain rails bathe in oil for 20 years without replacing them. The chain for some reason also seemed to have wear but it was right at the replacement mileage.
After a long days work to take the head off in a proper manner, I realized that the valves had miraculously broken, flipped around and stabbed right into the pistons. How and why I still dont know but I have some mint exhaust valves. It also lost a piston that after turning the engine over by hand a couple of times, I had the pleasure of playing whack-a-mole with.
Heres a couple of pics from the disaster.
I was lucky to find a low mileage engine that had a new timing chain, rails and tensioner on it already. Now it runs and purrs again, the last thing is to figure out how to adjust the throttle linkeage so that the shiftpoint are correct and that it downshifts properly. If anyone has some info on that I would greatly appreciate it otherwise I will tinker with it some more and figure it out.

I was saved just in time....had the timing chain replaced at 134k while I was getting some other work done. It was one of those things that I knew needed to be done and the price was right!
Glad to know that you have replacement and don't have to deal with the stress of cleaning up the mess.

cable adjustment
The linkage adjustment is simple. Find the cable that goes down to the transmission. Start with the adjustment about half way and drive it. If it shifts early and won't downshift, you need to screw the adjuster out more. If it shifts late or not at all you need to screw the adjuster back in some. Just trial and error until you get it just right.

Thanks I appreciate the help, I think it is correct now. Unfortunatly I havent driven other perfect examples of this engine so I dont know what it should feel like exactly but im not complaining either.
