diesel running weak
Sometimes my 1983 300SD turbo diesel runs very weak and will barely pull itself. This usually happens after I have driven it and parked it for a very short time, like when I run into a store. It is then very hard to start and has very slow throttle response. Often I can just re-start it and it runs fine. Sometimes not. I have a small leak in the fuel priming hand pump under the hood. Could this be the problem? Why will it run fine one minute, then wimpy the next. It either runs fine or it runs crummy, it never gets worse or better while it is running.

If the old style primer pump is leaking replace it with the new style. Have you done the following things?
1. Change fuel filters
2. Adjust valves
3. Checked timing
4. Checked boost
5. Cleaned banjo bolt

lots of possibles weak running diesel
if the priming pump is leaking fuel, it could also allow air into the system. get it replaced.
another possibility, check the brake calipers. really, mine was running weak when parked for a while, and then I had the tires changed, found a stuck caliper, changed it, voila! car peppy and fast as ever!
also get the maintenance done, it will run much better.
