Does it start to turn over, but wont fire completely, or is it just dead?? I ask because i'm having a similar problem with a 1987 560sel. When warm, it will crank over but not start. The mechanic says its the fuel distributor.

Good Luck

1991 300sl 5 speed manual
Could be 2 things

One it could be the distributer getting moisture in it. It can also be the valves have carbon deposite on them. THere is a fuel additive that Mercedes sells that is good Try 3 tank fulls. IF that doesnt do it you may have to remove the heads and have them cleaned. MOst likely a 1800 dollar job. SO that said try the additives first. There is an old mechanics trick of using a spray bottle and spraying water down the intake while you rev the engine however I would sudjest haveing a mechanic at a reputable shop try this in case he blows your engine you have someone to sue. I have this same problem right now on my 91 300sl with 79000 miles. JJ

hot start problem

Before throwing money away in expensive solutions try changing the $60.00 fuel accumulator located by the fuel filter & rear fuel pumps; it has always worked for me on 116's and 126's with the same problem.

you said that you have almost evry thing regarding fuel system, but did you checked the elctrical system it may be the plugs or the wiring to check wires you can use an old trick. (better to do in shaded place or night) but becareful use a glove. unplug one wire and put its end near the engne block and tell someone to try to start the car ( just a click not full run ) if you see a spark then its working.

also check the coil ( very suspected )

Hi All- Currently suffering the same problem with my dad's 560 sel--

the #2 something on the fuel distributor kept showing as not having enough pressure, so after going through a few distributors, the mechanic delved deeper and found that there was a problem with a "boot" of some sort. I will have to ask him to explain it in more detail. Anyway, he's still investigating, and its been a while now

If you think it might be the FD- try http://www.fuelparts.com/ They have re-built fuel distributors.

Good Luck
