The 500 SEC is a very nice car. Big, roomy, comfortable, and good power make it one of my favourite cars of all time.

Been looking for a few years at SECs. Mostly 560's. Lots of engine problems with the top ends on these. And many of these were just worn out. I liked the 500's better. Just enough electronics but not too many for the do it your selfer like me. I found a great example online 700 miles from me with a ton of receipts. Even the window sticker!
A CarFax report verified alot of information on the receipts too. So that sold me. The receipts indicated the car's port of entry was San Francisco. And for a Californian, that means the car came with the required smog equipment.
So I flew up to Seattle and drove it home the same day. Well actually it took 14 hours and two and a half tanks of gas. What really impressed me was this cars power. And with 230,000 miles on it too. Smooth ride. Great brakes. Cold AC and heat warmers that worked too. Even the rear window defrosters worked as I crossed the snow covered mountain tops. The temp guage got down to -9C at the trips coldest point.
Be patient. Look at many before deciding. You will be glad you did.

My two cents - never having owned one - is that their styling is timeless. I think that style wise the SEC is among mercedes' best executions ever. One day I'm going to speak those words from first hand experience. I wish you luck if you plan on getting one.
