broken trans dipstick in neck

Need adice, 1990 560sec
While trying to get the transmission fluid dipstick back in it got hung up and when I was able to pull it back out I discovered a portion of the tip was broken off, not sure but guessing about 2-4 inches. It may still be stuck in the neck tube there was about 6 incnes left to push down in still.

Maybe if someone has the measurement or can measure theirs and tell me what the length should be then I will know how long the broken peice is, Also would like to know what my options are at this point.
Thanks

I'm not sure just how long the dip stick in your car is, but I mentioned this to an ASE master mechanic friend.

If it's a short segment of the dipstick, you could just leave it in the bottom of the transmission fluid pan, if it is not actually stuck in the tube.
If it is still stuck in the tube, you may be able to loosen the tube from where it enters the side of the transmission and get the segment out of it.

If the segment is actually in the pan, though, it should stay there safely until you next change the transmission filter.

This is admittedly not my car, though, so you may prefer to persue another route.

I hope this helps some, though!

Thanks Josh

Hi,,, I appreciate the effort in talking to your friend about this and the quick response. I had the same hunch but I was way to scared to trust my own thoughts in this kind of matter. Hopefully a couple more people will have same opinion to boost my confidence.

The piece falls into the bottom of the pan and will not harm anything. There are no moving parts down there and the pan filter keeps the piece from being sucked into the transmission. Leave it there until the next scheduled oil and filter change, then remind the mechanic to pull it out. Just go buy a new dipstick.
