Just bought a 300 SE
Hello everyone, first post. I just picked up a 1991 300 SE this morning, then "had" to drive it 250 miles to get her home. All I can say is this: I am in. My dad had a 560 bitd and the ride I enjoyed today brought back many memories. I've lucked into an extraordinary specimen with a mint interior, with only a couple trouble spots where the vinyl has torn at the safety belt sliders on the b pillars. The exterior has a couple of bubbles in the finish and some chrome flaking on the front bumber, otherwise it's time machine time. I'll take pics and post them tommorow.
There are a couple of mechanical issues like trouble starting in the cold - I'll check filters, the battery is good, new spark plugs. The other issue is the lock on the driver door stuck in the unlocked position. When I attempt to lock it from the outside the key will not turn more than 15 degrees or so to the right. Could this possibly be caused by the locking mechanism? What I do know is that the interior lock button is STUCK for sure, not something a little wd40 or elbow grease will knock out. The other piece of info is that the driver window thumps loudly when the window reaches the closed position. Not related necessarily but in the same general area inside the door. Any ideas around here to help out a newbie scrub? In any event good to find this place, I'm just getting started.

I haven't had time to take pics, so I'll post pics the seller used online.

The engine doesn't look like it's been powerwashed into oblivion, it just looks well-maintained. Though if anyone sees something missing lmk!

How many miles do you have on it and do you mind telling us how much you paid for it? It looks pretty Sharp. I am selling my 560 sel as well. Take a look, its on the forum and tell me what do u think about it.

137K. $3700. The service manual is stamped and receipted for every scheduled tuneup and milestone maintenance appointment. The car's one owner took it to the same dealer for 15 years to get the work done. If it wasn't being driven it was in the garage.

Nice job and find! The key to these cars is it being maintained. Yours looks to be very well maintained.
On the v8's the timing chain need to be replaced at 100k intervals, with the 6 cylinders, I am not sure. It is something to inquire about.

Thanks for the comments and the welcome. She's at the dealer right now getting tuned and repaired. Early reports on the bill for parts and labor are eye-opening to say the least, definitely diminishing "the deal" I got. That said, I think it's worth it to let the experts get everything as close to square as possible then I think I'll be researching the DIY approach for sure. The mechanic I spoke with at Service was excited to get to work and said that there's widespread love around the shop for the 126 - good hands then.
