300SE Will Not Start?

Recently washed the engine compartment (avoided spraying the engine directly) to remove road salt. Didn't start the car after spraying the engine compartment and let the car sit for about a day & a 1/2 in about 35-45 degree temps. When I finally tried to start it it wouldn't. It turns over easily but gives absolutely no indication that it wants to start? I checked for a spark at the coil and a couple of spark plugs and it is getting a nice spark. Removed the distributor cap and both the cap and rotor are in great shape. I sprayed starter fluid into the air intake and it still gave no indication that it wanted to start. I am at a loss?!?!? The Bosch Ingition Control Module is mounted on the drives side wheel housing and I got that wet (had it wet before) as I washed the salt off. It apears to be a completely sealed unit and I can't tell if it is working or not? Anyone with some advice?

Details on the car; 1988 300SE 3.0 Liter with 196,000+ miles and most recently replaced the fuel pump.

sounds like you've fried your OVP relay.

OVP Relay

Hi shadowgriffen,

Could you tell me where the OVP relay is located? I have a feeling that I might have fried mine as well. Is it a diy repair ?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers
Dilan

The OVP or over voltage protection relay, is located on my 126's, on the drivers side, to the left or center of the brake booster, and brake fluid resevoir.
It is a easy DIY. 1st check the RED fuse on the top of the OVP, to ensure it is not blown(I have had 2 bad OVP's and the fuses, both times were good), so don't get your hopes up.
It simply unplugs from the bottom, and is held in place without screws. Just a bow tie type of look attached to the OVP itself.

300SE Won't Start

Evening Benzitch,

Is there any way to determine whether the relay is good or not, or do you just replace it even if the 10 amp fuze is good? If the relay is bad, will it prevent the car from starting at all?

Thanks!

Rereading this, sounds like it could be the Fuel Pump Relay if it doesn't start at all.
