Thumbs down Newbie W/ 560 SEC Q's

Hello i hope in the future i can contribute to this forum, but being new to MB and this car my knowledge is extremely limited.

Ok it's a 1988 560SEC coupe with 190K car look great inside and out..BUT it seems to "lack" the get up and go (perhaps it got up and went?)
From a dead stop pedal to the floor it shift 2,3,4...... NO winding out of gears for rapid acceleration. I have ordered the kickdown switch under gas pedal and waiting for it to arrive. Driving along at 20mph or say 40mph if i stomp on it still no drop down to lower gear. Car does move along but at a gradual pace to get to 90 or so. From what i haqve read this car should ge up and toss me back in my seat, but nothing here like that.

Are there common issues besides the kickdown under gas pedal that i should be looking in to? Love the car, hope to get it running up to speed so to speak then perhaps try to hunt down an AMG kit and wheels for her. Also I get COLD air blowing out of the rear vent only, kids are complaining LOL it it supposed to blow only cold as i see no settings for the read on front climate controls.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

David

Check your Timing

It sounds like your engine might be a little out of time. This could explain your lack of power.

Quite a few:)
Have you had the timing chain/tensioner etc done? When was the fuel filter/pumps done last? Cap/rotor/wires? What plugs are you running? Have you checked temps @ your cats?
Compression test?

Your 560 sounds as though it's suffering from a quite a few issues.

Sounds like the cable from the Automatic to the throttle may be disconnected. it is located under the air filter towards the rear of the engine. The cable gives throttle inputs to transmission. Check if is connected

another common issue for these cars is a clogged front cat. I took mine off and checked it out. Clogged as hell. Now she really jumps. I took all my cats off. Gonna be putting a freeflow cat on this year sometime.

Oh and Hi Jonathan. Fancy seeing you here.
