I have a 1987 300SDL with 170,000 miles on it. My radio just stopped working one day. When you press the one button it just makes clicking noise through the speakers until you release the button. When you insert a cassette tape it does not stay in. I do not know if the radio is worth fixing? I would love to have a radio with a cd that fits the decor of the car, any suggestions?

My dad is having radio issues in his 1989 300SE, too. For him, the volume control is sketchy. Cruise ebay -- I've seen several used radios that you could pick up fairly inexpensively. That's our plan -- we're just going to replace the old, broken one with what we hope is a non-broken one and hope for the best. Just be sure and check the part number on the radio that's in the car and the one you plan to buy and make sure they match.

send your radio to Becker in New Jersey and they'll send you a new (rebuilt) one. Get proper connector to add accessory from them and then wire it to a six pack CD changer in your trunk....you have best of both worlds.
