Engine mounts worn out (?$75 the pair), engine dampers worn out (?$100), gearbox mount too (?$50)? As an investment in long-term ownership I had all these replaced on my W126 at 130k, although they probably could have gone on. The difference in depth between old and new engine mounts was notable.

Have you checked your timing chain stretch, valve clearance, injection timing, and injectors, fuel and air filters? Hard to diagnose a problem that could have so many causes.

84 300SD
when i first purhcased my 84 300sd it would shake some, not as bad as yours sounds though, but i replaced the 2 fuel filters and it made alot of difference i now know that when it starts to shake a little now i need to replace the fuel pre filter and its fine again. i would check the motor mounts though and replace them, they are pretty cheap and if they fail entirly you could cause alot more damage

my 300 sd has some 380000 miles, i'v changed main fuel filter, but not the pre-filter(small one), i'v set valve clearance, timing chain looks good, i'v recently changed left engine mount, dampers look good( how can i see if they are bad????) So here are some clues so please give me some advice. Thanks
