Negatives include possible difficulty getting gray-market car serviced and passing inspection. I don't know what NY smog inspection for '83 is like, but if the car wasn't federalized correctly you could have problems. If you can confirm it will pass your inspections and that you can get it serviced and repaired, it's a great car.

C230k coupe 500sec convertible
[QUOTE=whoover;2378261]Positives include the power that subsequently came from the 5.6 liter engine for the US with only 5.0 liter displacement (and therefore better mileage).

until 1986 the euro grey market 500secs were only 5.0l, NOT 5.6l they just had hotter cams, a higher compression and extra 38 horsepower
after 1986 they became 5.6l in europe but still badged 500sec
get one you will be happy

This is an '83. It's 5.0 liter. When MB introduced the 560 SEL/SEC to the US it needed the extra displacement to make the same power offsetting the lower compression and emission controls. I think we're saying the same thing. The Euro version of the M117.968 doesn't really alter what I said, I don't think.
